The Sirangalli Community Project is a sustainable coffee farming initiative by the South India Coffee Company (SICC) that works with small coffee farmers in the Pushpagiri Range of Coorg. These biodiverse farms range from 1 - 10 acres  and are family run operations. The lots selected for the project have been processed at Mooleh manay estate. We had featured the coffees from Sirangalli under our Anuswaram series and liked them enough to bring one back as a perennial offering.

The lot we chose from the Sirangalli is a straightforward washed arabica but boy does it pack a punch!

Cherries of a mix of arabica varietals(SLn 06, SLn 09, Chandragiri) were picked ripe and floated to remove low density coffee.

The ripe cherries are then pulped , i.e. the outer skin is removed and then fermented briefly to remove the sticky mucilage.

The beans then washed thoroughly and then slow dried on raised beds with regular raking for proper airflow.

All the care taken during even a simple process, has resulted in lovely cup that brims with complexity and a wonderful balance. We taste the acidity of oranges and pears and a jaggery like sweetness, making this coffee very drinkable(we chugged multiple cups of this in the name of testing and throughly enjoyed every drop!)

Kurinji the coffee is a delight across all manual brews 7 days post date of roast and is a sweet, crisp delight as an espresso; 14 days post date of roast.

Kurinji: A liquid berry vanilla coffee cake in a cup!

The careful processing of the Sirangalli honey set by the Mooleh Manay Estate and the complementary medium-light roasting of the resulting beans by Kapikottai have together highlighted the best notes of this splendidly complex, well-balanced, elegant, and sweet coffee. When brewed using an Aeropress, the coffee, on cooling, tastes like a liquid berry vanilla sponge cake. Delicious! ☕️
